A few great dishes to discover in the area.

The Caldero, which we love to eat in Santiago de la Ribeira, near Mar Menor. Dish composed of rice and fish. Think of booking it in advance, as it is quite long to be served, (1 hour or more sometimes). But well worth it!

The famous Paella. Many restaurants serve it in the area, near Villamartin, or the Bulacan in Torrevieja for instance.

The World Famous Tapas (which originally meant "lid" as it was placed on the glass of wine, then topped with ham, etc ...)can also be found in many restaurants. Often composed of bread and ham, it is now a small portion of mainly all existing dishes in Spain. Vegeterian, fish, etc...

Delicious for the aperitive !!!!

The Gaspacho, fresh tomato soup, composed (for us) of 1kg of tomatoes, 1 green pepper, seeded and chopped, a slice of bread ( to be put 1 minute in fresh water), half a glass of olive oil, (you can add 1/2 glass of vinegar, but we don't) 1 teaspoon of cumin. Mix everything eveything together, then sift through a fine sieve, and store in the fridge for at least an hour.

Add garlic or plain croutons, and cubed cucumber, with a tiny pinch of red spice (Cayenne pepper ...) for a perfect dressing! Enjoy!

Ham can also be found everywhere, the most famous one being the Serrano. You'll find it in supermarkets, we buy ours in La Zenia's Al Campo, where there is a full department for it !!!
